About Billy Law

A Table For Two (ATFT) is Billy Law's food blog that features best eats in Sydney and around the world with drool-worthy food photography to salivate your appetite. I also throw in a smidgen of my food and travel photography for good measure. Billy Law also happened to be a contestant on MasterChef Australia 2011.

A Table For Two or ATFT in short, is a Sydney food blog by me – Billy Law, a Malaysian Chinese who resides in Sydney and is proud to call Australia home. I grew up in Ipoh city, approximately 200km north of Kuala Lumpur. The city itself is still unknown to many foreigners but when comes to food, it is an absolute favourite destination for many food lovers.

Malaysia is a cultural melting pot and I was very lucky to get exposure to many different types of Southeast Asian Cuisine at very young age. Food has always played an important role in our diverse culture, so it is not uncommon to find Malaysians greeting each other by asking “Have you eaten yet?” instead of “how are you?”

In 1996, I moved to Queensland, Australia to further my studies. Thousands of miles away from home, I missed home-cooked meals tremendously, so that’s when I started picking up a spatula and a wok and developing a strong passion towards cooking. When it comes to cooking, my biggest inspiration has to be my mum. You will find some recipes on the blog that I’ve learned from my mum throughout the years, even though we weren’t really allowed to touch anything in the kitchen but only to observe. But I do believe is a good thing as I now cook by following my instincts and am always ready to explore new flavours, rather than strictly following recipes.

With my Asian background and the influence of western culture, I count myself lucky to have been exposed to some of the most spectacular cuisines from both worlds. As someone who loves food in all its forms, I believe we should try everything once, love it or hate it. This is why I am always on the move with my cameras, travelling to different countries to explore the cultures and submerge myself in the sights and sounds of the various culinary worlds.

My recent involvement in third season of MasterChef Australia is a kick start of my culinary dream.
