Ideally located on the picturesque property of the Barossa’s 1837 Winery, a new destination restaurant is patiently waiting to burst onto the scene.

Horizon at 1837 will bring an elegant, sophisticated dining experience but don’t let the high-class vibe fool you, this place isn’t just your special occasion venue, it’s somewhere you’ll want to return to time and time again.

Surrounded by the untouched beauty that is the Barossa Valley, the restaurant will boast a full 360-degree view of the iconic Lyndoch property that also holds a rich, historical presence. The monument of Adelaide’s founder Colonel William Light stands proudly on the site to commemorate the birthplace of the Barossa Valley – a tribute to which 1837 winemakers dedicated their wines year after year.

The stunning space features a large alfresco area complete with shade so it’ll be able to be utilised year-round with weddings and corporate events in the long-term plan.

Director and Head Chef Akash Srivastava along with his wife Shali took the opportunity to spearhead Horizon Restaurant in a bold move to work towards something of their own creation.

A chef for over 15 years, Akash has made quite the name for himself in the food industry having worked at some of the most highly acclaimed hotels across the country with his most recent position as Executive Chef at the prestigious Manor Basket Range wrapping up solely for him to focus on this new, personal project.

Akash and Shali have made sure that Horizon will be a place that is accessible for everyone to enjoy. “This isn’t just a special occasion venue,” he said. “We want this to be somewhere that everyone can enjoy no matter your background so you won’t find crazy expensive prices on our menu.

“I’m from a middle-class family myself and I know people want to be able to revisit the places they love and not just save them for a special occasion. We want people to come here, have a wonderful time and then come back again and again.”

Known for his unique food creations and fierce attention to detail, the restaurant will favour contemporary, modern Australian food made with only the freshest, local produce. So local in fact, that a friendly neighbour of the property is hand growing the vegetables himself just 1km away.

With the freshness of the produce, the menu will of course be updated seasonally with Akash saying his creations will be heavily influenced by the history of the property.

“My food is inspired by history and splendour off Colonel William Light and the rich gastronomic heritage of the Barossa region – an uncovered culinary culture place away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.”

The name itself, Horizon, comes directly from that feeling of removing yourself from everyday life and exploring possibilities.

Set to open on the 6th of May, an official launch will take place in early June with the public invited to come and help Akash, Shali and their adorable fur baby Tintin celebrate the opening of the South Australia’s newest foodie destination.

And yes, Tintin will be floating around the property looking for pats and yes, guests are encouraged to bring their own furry friends along with the large outdoor area being very much pet-friendly.

Horizon Restaurant and Cellar is located at 119, Yaldara Drive Lyndoch, 5351.
