US burger chain Five Guys is set to open a second restaurant in Australia.
The franchise, known for its made-fresh-to-order burgers, in-house hand-cut fries and American-style milkshakes, will open in Sydney’s CBD in mid-2022.
Diners can enjoy American burger favourites with 15 free toppings to choose from – resulting in 250,000 different ways to customise a burger.

The fries are made from fresh-cut potatoes which are soaked in water to remove the starch and then fried twice for “creamy, mashed consistency” on the inside and crunch on the outside.
Customers can expect more than 1,000 possible ways to customise their milkshake.
The new venue, featuring its hallmark red and white colour scheme, will be in the heritage-listed Spiden House on George Street.
It’s the second Five Guys franchise in Australia after Penrith in western Sydney opened in September 2021.
Five Guys is a family-run burger joint, founded by American couple Janie and Jerry Murrell, in 1986.
Three of their sons were given an ultimatum: “Start a business or go to college”.
Under the guidance of their parents, the family served only hand-formed burgers “cooked to perfection” on a grill along with fresh-cut fries cooked in pure peanut oil.
“From the beginning, we wanted our customers to know that we put all our money into the food,” Chad Murrell said.
“That’s why the décor is so simple; only red and white tiles. We don’t spend money on décor, or guys in chicken suits.”
Five Guys has expanded from five to more than 1,700 locations around the world, spread over 24 countries.
