Last night, the James Beard Foundation held its first chef and restaurant awards since 2019. (As you might remember, the 2020 awards were first delayed because of the pandemic and then canceled. Last year was skipped as well.) For the nominees and industry members in attendance, the return of the awards was a moment of celebration after a long two years. Those who got to celebrate big include the Grey’s Mashama Bailey, anointed Outstanding Chef; Dhamaka’s Chintan Pandya, who was named Best Chef in New York State; and Sean Sherman and Dana Thompson of Owamni in Minneapolis, this year’s Best New Restaurant. Congratulations to all the winners.
