A man has been charged with using mace inside a restaurant and spraying two Chicago police officers early Sunday in the Loop.

Nkosi Hampton, 24, was charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and 13 misdemeanor counts of aggravated battery, Chicago police said.

About 12:45 a.m., officers on patrol noticed several people running out of a restaurant in the 200 block of North Wabash Avenue after a Hampton allegedly began spraying mace inside, Chicago police said.

Hampton then allegedly sprayed two officers and struck one of those officers with the can of mace before he was taken into custody, police said.

Several people were treated and released by paramedics at the scene.

Hampton was scheduled to appear in bond court Monday.
