A restaurant manager has pleaded with guests to put their cameras away after an unwanted visitor sneaked behind the establishment’s bar.

Yet one customer in the Columbia restaurant in the US state of South Carolina managed to capture video of the surprising intruder before posting it online.

“Friday night, my husband, my sister-in-law, and I ate at this Applebee’s,” Adriane Neico explaned on Facebook.

“Little did we know that the baby possum was dining in also.

“The manager had the nerve to say, ‘no pictures please.’ Well, with that being said, her worries should have been on customer satisfaction. I paid my bill of $36 and left.”

Ms Neico said that she was concerned with how long the “nasty” opossum had been inside the restaurant, suggesting the animal may have urinated or defecated in the bar.

In the clip, she can be heard saying “oh hell no” as she films the opossum.

While Ms Neico identifies the animal as a possum, the opossum is the only marsupial to inhabit North America.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control told Yahoo Lifestyle a complaint had been received regarding the incident and had been in touch with the restaurant.

“In a case such as this, the animal must be removed, all impacted food items must be thrown out and the area is required to be cleaned and sanitized,” a spokesperson said.

An Applebee’s spokesperson told US television station WIS-TV that the incident occured after heavy rain and that it takes the “safety of our guests and team members, as well as the cleanliness of our restaurants is a priority”.

They said the ppossum was removed quickly and safely from the restaurant.
