A woman has revealed how she walked out on her husband after he committed an “embarrassing” act at an upmarket restaurant which lead to them being “kicked out” of the premises.
Sharing her story on Reddit, the wife said she’d planned the romantic meal for her husband as they hadn’t gone out alone for some time.
But when she arrived at the new restaurant, she was surprised to see that he’d agreed to babysit his 18-month-old niece and that she was joining them for the meal.
She said the night out soon went pear-shaped when the toddler started crying, attracting disapproving looks from the staff at the restaurant which was “not child friendly”.
However things went from bad to worse when the wife returned from the ladies room to find her husband changing his niece’s nappy at the dinner table – an act that lead to them being asked to leave the restaurant.
The wife said she was so angry with her husband over the evening, she took a separate Uber home – leading to tension in the marriage.
In her post, the wife said she and her husband had only been married for a little more than a year.
“He’s very close to his family – loves to help out, but can be firm at times,” she said.
“He adores his 18-month-old niece, his sister’s baby. He always babysits whenever he’s got nothing to do. I help with whatever I can.
“We haven’t gotten out for a nice dinner in a while. I asked if we could go out to a new restaurant and try their food and have good time together.
“He agreed, I immediately made reservations and took care of everything.
“Since I couldn’t take the day off, I left work early and went to meet him there at the restaurant.
“I walked in and saw my husband sitting and his niece in a carseat by the table.
“I asked and he said his sister had work and wanted him to watch his niece.
“His family were out of town so there was no one else beside him.”
The wife said she immediately became uncomfortable about being in the restaurant with a toddler.
“I noticed the restaurant staff were giving us looks since it’s not a child-friendly restaurant and I was worried the baby would cry or something,” she said.
“We ordered our meals while he was calming his niece down because she was crying loudly. He kept asking the waitress about stuff they don’t have for his niece.
“I couldn’t take the looks from people unable to enjoy their meals because of the noise my husband’s niece was making.
“Especially when he started singing You’re Welcome from Moana movie while swinging her.
“I got up to go to the restroom. A few minutes later I heard him arguing loudly. I went to see that he was actually trying to change his niece’s nappy on the table.
“The waitress was arguing with him. I was in shock.”
The wife said things became heated when the restaurant’s manager became involved.
“The manager came after my husband said he’d take a minute to get it done,” she said.
“The manager spoke to me and asked me to leave eventually.
‘Ruined our dinner’
“I was livid. We left and I blew up outside, asked my husband ‘Why the table while people were eating?’ That he could’ve told me [that he was babysitting his neice] and I wouldn’t have picked a restaurant that doesn’t allow infants.
“That he embarrassed me, ruined dinner and got us kicked out.”
She went on to say that her husband became angry that she hadn’t sided with him during the restaurant dispute.
“He started arguing with me like I was one of his students after I refused to get in the car,” she said.
“Giving me 0/10 for my reaction and claiming I picked a bad restaurant.
“Said that he was helping his sister and I needed to understand that.
“After the argument I took an Uber and went home. He went to his sister’s place and called saying I shouldn’t have left like that and make him feel guilty for wanting to help. But I didn’t respond.”
Many Reddit users sided with the wife over the incident.
“Changing the diaper at the table is disgusting but that’s not the real issue,” said one.
“This was their first date night in months and instead of telling his sister they had plans, he brought a baby. This guy is never going to put [her] first.”
Said another: “And as a former waitress, some people definitely get mad when you bring toddlers or infants in a fancy restaurant.
“Tell your husband he needs to learn a bit more about how to properly take care of a baby if he’s whipping out the nappy bag on a restaurant table!”
Said one more: “There’s zero excuse for changing the baby on the table of a restaurant, and introducing a biohazard where everyone else is eating.”
