McLaren Vale restaurant, Victor’s Place, has announced it will be closing its doors, with its final restaurant services taking place on Friday 23rd December. This devastating news comes just after the venue was named among the top 3 restaurants for “Everyday Eats” in Australia.

The team from Victor’s Place issued a statement this morning, explaining that their closure is as a result of major roadworks having a “severe impact” on their operations.

“Sadly, the disruptions and severe impacts of the Victor Harbor Road Duplication Project have made it impossible for us to continue to keep our restaurant and cellar door open,” says restaurant representatives.

The Victor Harbor Road Duplication Project involves duplicating approximately five kilometres between Main South Road, Old Noarlunga and Main Road, McLaren Vale. Construction began early this year and isn’t scheduled for completion until 2024.

While this is a sad time for the restaurant, the venue took the time to thank its supporters and voice how we can continue to support Co-Owner Alan Varney and the rest of the Victor’s Place team.

“It is through our loyal guests, incredible team, suppliers, producers, friends, and families, that we have achieved so much and made so many cherished memories. We want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your dedication and support. We will be forever grateful,” they continued.

“We have made the decision to put all of our focus and energies into @varneywines and look forward to continuing to supply our loyal supporters with their favourite drops, all available online at varneywines.com.au.”

Set amongst the rolling hills of the Onkaparinga Gorge, at the Gateway to McLaren Vale, Victor’s Place offered picturesque views and a relaxed charming atmosphere in its restored Limestone barn.

In October, it was named the third best restaurant for “Everyday Eats” in the country by TripAdvisor. Sydney’s Cucina Porto secured the second position, while Mooloolaba’s Bella Venezia Restaurant won the number one spot.

Victor’s Place also boasted an impressive wine selection from its owner’s winery, Varney Wines. Varney Wines was also recently named “Best New Winery of the Year” in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion Awards.

Victor’s Place will be taking bookings until Friday 23rd December. Bookings can be made online here.

You can also support the team by purchasing Varney Wines’ products online or visiting the cellar door, which is still located at 62 Victor Harbor Road, Old Noarlunga SA 5168.
